Abstract
This IDC study (which is a translation of the Japanese report IDC #J7400310)
analyzes the shipment performance in the Japan disk storage systems market from
the first half of 2005 to the first half of 2007, and presents forecasts for
the period until 2011. In addition, this study also analyzes the market from
the viewpoints of terabyte shipments, unit shipments, revenue, and forecasts.
The share and shipment performance of suppliers from the first half of 2006 to
the first half of 2007 were analyzed from the viewpoints of revenue, terabyte
shipments, and unit shipments. The Japan disk storage systems market are
forecasted and analyzed from the viewpoints of OS, installation environments
(DAS/SAN/NAS), external/internal, captive/non-captive and distribution channels
(direct sales/indirect sales), and so forth. In the external disk storage
systems market, forecast data and studies shipment results were divided into
high-end, midrange and low-end based on system price bands.
"The Japan disk storage systems market achieved strong growth in the first half
of 2007. An important characteristic of this market is that investment by Japan
corporations in disaster recovery, and data protection, previously segments
that were slow to pick up, has evolved into engines of growth. Therefore it has
become all the more important for disk storage systems suppliers to establish
sales and products strategies that convey clearly to users the value of storage
Infrastructure and how that allow companies to cope with changes in the
business and company environments, in order that the change in investment
stance among Japan corporations can continue to translate into storage
infrastructure buildup," observes Masaaki Moriyama, group director,
Storage/Server/Printer, IDC Japan.
