Abstract
This IDC study (which is a translation of the Japanese report IDC #J8240103)
presents the 2008 edition of IDC' s Japan unified communication market taxonomy
and looks at the trends in the unified applications market. Unified
communications is a means of communications that improve workflow efficiency
and create new business processes. IDC splits the Japan unified communication
market into three broad categories, eight sub-categories and sixteen functional
markets. The results of our user survey indicate that the unified applications
market is still at the early adoption stage. Unified applications are still not
widely known in the market.
"To realize growth opportunities in the unified communication market, it is an
urgent task for vendors and sales channels to address the current issues
related to unified applications. They should carry out structure changes in
line with market changes, and establish standards for evaluating the effects of
implementing unified communications on the end-user side," observes Takashi
Manabe, research manager, Communications, IDC Japan.
