Abstract
This IDC study (which is a translation of the Japanese report IDC #J8280102)
defines the products used in the compliance infrastructure and governance, risk
and compliance (GRC) management solutions that form the compliance market based
on the 2008 edition of the market taxonomy and product classifications, and
analyzes the results of a questionnaire-based survey conducted by IDC among 180
chief compliance officers (CCO) of Japanese companies (compliance organizations
adopted by user companies, implementation of hardware/software/services in the
various markets, other hardware/software/services products implemented with
compliance solutions, compliance solutions vendor mindshare, and compliance
investment plans).
In view of the global drop in stock prices caused by the subprime loan problem
that surfaced in the United States in 2H07, the expensive yen, and other
factors, whether Japan' s economy can remain on the growth track does not allow
for premature conclusions. However, based on the results of the current survey,
we believe that corporate compliance budgets will continue to grow in Japan.
"IT vendors should develop growth strategies that leverage new business models
in the compliance market, such as that of providing hosted application
management (hosted AM) solutions for offshore office support that combines SaaS
and outsourcing to Japan global companies," observes Eiji Sasahara, research
manager, IT spending, IDC Japan.
