Abstract
This IDC study assesses the current level of interest (or concern) among small
and medium-sized business (SMB) owners relating to future economic growth and
business conditions as well as four technologies that could be considered
"cutting edge" among SMBs. These four topics include green technology,
software-as-a-service, virtualization, and use of online resources for business
purposes. The study also looks at the factors that could change these levels of
interest/concern in the future and in which direction this change might go.
"While economic and business conditions are the major concern for SMBs in most
regions, owners of these companies must also be looking ahead to when the
global economy rebounds," said John Roberts, Ph.D., research manager for Global
SMB Research at IDC. "Greater use of cutting-edge technologies and employing
new methods to reach customers and increase sales will be key to taking
advantage of an improving business climate."
