Abstract
This IDC study provides detailed analysis, conclusions, and forecasts regarding
the dynamics of the personal computer market in the East African region (Kenya,
Tanzania, Ethiopia, and Uganda). The information in this study is intended to
provide an understanding of the changes and challenges facing the PC industry.
IDC' s 2007 figures and analysis are based on information gathered from
interviews with the leading IT companies (vendors, distributors, assemblers,
system integrators, value-added resellers, and dealers) active in the region.
"The year 2007 saw an increase in the uptake of notebooks, especially within
the SMB segment. Users in this segment are heavily burdened by rising costs,
however, and so the availability and affordability of wireless technology have
made notebooks more appealing - the ideal alternative to desktops, in fact,
since they enable users to increase productivity by working from home." - Joyce
