Abstract
In 2006, the European market for spinal implants and biomaterials was valued
at over €500 million. The European market consists of the following
segments: spinal fusion devices, non-fusion devices, vertebral compression
fracture (VCF) treatments, and biomaterials used to aid in the fusion process.
Relative market size for each of these segments is depicted in Chart 1-1. The
European market, as defined in this report, encompasses France, U.K., Germany,
Spain, Italy, Switzerland, Scandinavia (Denmark, Finland, Norway, and Sweden),
Benelux (Belgium, Netherlands, Luxemburg), and Eastern Europe (Czech Republic,
Poland, and Russia).
