Abstract
The combined shipment value of the Chinese IC design industry rose to 18.6
billion RMB (US$2.46 billion; US$1 = 7.5677 RMB) in 2006, representing an
annual growth rate of around 50% compared to 2005. Most Chinese IC design
firms are involved in developing ICs for use in consumer electronics products;
leading design houses in this sector include Semico, Actions Semiconductor,
Vimicro, and Silan. However, the last few years have also seen the emergence
of design houses specializing in communications ICs, such as Spreadtrum and
HiSilicon. This report will analyze the development and current status of the
Chinese IC design industry.
