Abstract
Chinese makers' digital terrestrial STB shipment volume in 2006 reached 4.94
million units, nearly 1.2 times the number shipped in 2005. Demand from the
European market was the core driver of growth. However, the Chinese industry
also faced problems related to MPEG LA patents. Domestic demand in China has
been further stimulated by the decision to adopt the DVB-TH standard for
digital terrestrial television broadcasts, but challenges in this area include
technology maturity, service costs, and the attitudes of television
broadcasting operators. This report will analyze the leading Chinese digital
terrestrial STB companies, including Sichuan Changhong Network Technologies,
Shenzhen Coship Electronics, Skyworth Digital Technology, Sichuan Jiuzhou
Electronic Technology, Jiangsu Yinhe Electronics, Beijing Haier Info-Tech, and
Fujian Shenzhou Electronic.
