Abstract
Chinese IC design houses such as Silan Microelectronics, Semico, ASIC
Micro-electronics, Silicore Technology, SI-Power Micro-electronics and State
Microelectronics expanded into the VCD/DVD IC market at a relatively early
stage, starting from the motor driver segment. However, segments such as servo
control chipsets and MPEG decoders are dominated by Taiwanese, European and US
companies such as MTK, Zoran, Sunplus and ESS. In 2006, Silan moved into the
DVD SoC field after acquiring patents from ESS, and has been working in close
collaboration with Chinese DVD player manufacturers. This report will analyze
the development of leading Chinese VCD/DVD design houses.
