Abstract
Notebook PC shipment performance in China and emerging market grew fiercely in
the first quarter of 2008. The peak-season effect in Japan also brought brisk
sales in the Japanese market. Notebook PC shipments to North America slid
slightly due to subprime mortgage. In spite of the LGC factory fire in the
late period of the first quarter, some brands were able to maintain stable
component supply, and battery module makers and ODM makers still had some
inventory. Therefore, the impact caused by LGC factory fire was minimized.
However, the LGC factory fire effect is expected to influence shipment
performance in the second quarter.
