Abstract
The report is devoted to investigation of current standing of market of
polyethylene in Russia and CIS. The report consists of 5 Sections, contains
181 pages, including 38 Figures, 78 Tables and Appendix.
Methodologically, the investigation was conducted in two stages - "desk" and
"field" studies. At the first stage, we considered and analised all available
information sources, including data of Rosstat, Inter-state Committee on
Statistics of CIS countries, Federal Customs Service of Russia, Customs
Service of Ukraine, Customs Service of Belarus, official Russian domestic
railage statistic of JSC RZhD (former Ministry of Railway Transport of
Russia), sectoral (industrial) and regional press, annual and quarterly
reports of companies, data from web-sites of company-producers, as well as
information from InfoMine database. At the second stage, summarized results of
the first stage were verified and corrected by the way of telephone interviews
with specialists of enterprises, described in the report.
The first Section of the report considers technology of production of
polyethylene and the main suppliers of resources. At present time, in the CIS,
low-density polyethylene and high-density polyethylene are produced, and
capacities on production of high-density polyethylene are available only in 4
enterprises, and low-density polyethylene is produced by 9 enterprises. JSC
"Kazan' orgsintez" (Russia) and Shurtan GKhK (Uzbekistan) produces polyethylene
by both technologies.
The second Section is devoted to analysis of production of polyethylene in the
CIS and current standing of its producers. For the latest 9 years, volume of
production of polyethylene in the CIS grew 2.2 times. Commissioning the
enterprise in Uzbekistan and reconstruction of "Kazan' nefteorgsinteze"
resulted in significant expanding range of polyethylene grades produced.
The third Section is devoted to analysis of foreign trade in polyethylene. The
conducted studies showed that, until recently, Russian domestic market of
polyethylene practically was not dependent on imports of the product. Besides,
the Section describes export-import of polyethylene in other CIS countries.
The fourth Section is devoted to analysis of prices of Russian producers of
polyethylene, and dynamics of export-import prices on low-density polyethylene
and high-density polyethylene in Russia and Ukraine.
The fifth Section is devoted to analysis of consumption of polyethylene. For
the latest 9 years, consumption of polyethylene in Russia increased 2.4 times,
and rates of growth of the consumption outstrip in latest years rates of
growth of production of polyethylene, that resulted in the fact that in 2005,
capacity of Russian market of polyethylene exceeded volumes of its domestic
production.
The sixth Section is devoted to analysis of tendencies and prospects of
development of key end-uses of polyethylene: production of films, pipes,
containers and packing materials, cable industry.
The Conclusion of the report presents forecast of development of market of
polyethylene in the CIS up to 2012.
The Appendix includes addresses and contact information on the main
company-producers of polyethylene and the main its consumers of the product.
