Abstract
The humble rearview mirror has been transformed over the last decade into a
high-tech electronic module. Compasses and temperature displays, remote
keyless entry receivers, trip function displays, telematics capabilities,
global positioning systems and microphones are all typical of the added-value
functions found in today' s mirrors. In fact, about half of the mirrors Gentex
Corp sells come with some sort of advanced electronic feature, and we can
expect even more integrated technologies to come.
In the fourth edition of this report, just-auto reviews the key market drivers
for vehicle rearview mirrors, and updates the market analysis. just-auto' s
product fitment forecasts predict in detail how the rearview mirror market
will evolve in Europe, Asia-Pacific and North America from 2003 through to
2013. The report also provides an updated review of new product developments
and sets out brief profiles of the major manufactures in this sector.
Chapter 1 provides an introduction in the form of a market overview.
Chapter 2 identifies the major market players and the emerging markets
they have entered in recent history; Hungary, Poland, Russia and South Africa.
This chapter also looks at global market shares, market values and volume
forecasts for exterior, interior and auto-dimming rearview mirrors.
Chapter 3 offers a technical review which defines the elements of
different mirror types, in particular auto-dimming and power-folding. We look
at how mirrors have transformed, highlighting existing and potential features
of the 21st century mirror. This section also includes a Q&A session with
executives at Gentex.
