Abstract
“The most striking development in Q1 2008 was the booming shipments of
SFP+ transceivers, which enable higher port density of 8-Gbps Fibre Channel
and 10-Gbps Ethernet (10-GigE) interfaces. For the first time, shipments of
10-GigE SFP+ transceivers surpassed all other 10-GigE form factors in Q1
2008”
Optical transceiver market enjoyed the best first quarter ever as global sales
were up 15% year-on-year in Q1 2008. The most striking developments are a
dramatic shift from legacy SONET/SDH to WDM and Ethernet transceivers,
skyrocketing SFP+ modules as well as the early signs of successful cost
reduction efforts by vendors, leading to a more optimistic future for the
optical transceiver industry.
The LightCounting June, 2008 Transceiver report provides a complete view of
the rapidly changing optical transceiver market. This report offers detailed
quarterly sales of more than 100 product categories covering from Q1 2007 to
Q1 2008 in SONET/SDH, Ethernet, Fibre Channel, DWDM/CWDM, FTTx, and Optical
Interconnect market segments.
