Abstract
This Manufacturing Insights update is a follow-on quarterly update in our
Emerging Manufacturing Agenda program. In July, Manufacturing Insights
published our research report identifying the supply chain lessons learned for
manufacturers with activities in China (see Coordinating Global Supply Chains:
China - Supply Chain Challenges and Lessons Learned, Manufacturing Insights
#MI10057, July 2005). As a result of our interviews with manufacturing
companies, Manufacturing Insights identified five key risk areas for
manufacturers in China, along with recommendations for a risk assessment and
strategy framework for managing supply chain programs that extend to China.
This quarterly update, the first in a series, provides updated information for
the five key risk areas, along with summary analysis of what can be anticipated
in future quarters. We also encapsulate meaningful information, trends, and/or
case study profiles of current manufacturing strategies among U.S. and European
manufacturers with significant manufacturing and supply chain activities within
China.
