Abstract
This Manufacturing Insights update is a follow-on quarterly update in our
Low-Cost Manufacturing program. In July 2005, Manufacturing Insights published
a research report identifying the supply chain lessons learned for
manufacturers with activities in China (see Coordinating Global Supply Chains:
China - Supply Chain Challenges and Lessons Learned, Manufacturing Insights
#MI10057, July 2005). As a result of our interviews with manufacturing
companies, Manufacturing Insights identified five key risk areas for
manufacturers in China, along with recommendations for a risk assessment and
strategy framework for managing supply chain programs that extend to China.
This quarterly update provides updated information for the five key risk areas,
key industry updates, and a summary analysis of what can be anticipated in
future quarters. We also encapsulate meaningful information, trends, and/or
case study profiles of current manufacturing strategies among U.S. and European
manufacturers with activities within China.
