Abstract
This study provides analysis of the results of IDC-Manufacturing Insights' most
recent survey, carried out in Germany, France, the U.K., Italy, and Spain. The
results are based on 153 interviews with automotive companies in Western Europe.
The aim of this study is to understand the IT vendor selection process in the
automotive industry.
This study is one of a series that includes:
- IS budget developments to support leading business initiatives
- Analysis of business solution adoption and investment plans
"Serving the automotive industry is not easy. The industry is very complex and
the expectations from automotive manufacturers and first-tier suppliers in
terms of service level are particularly high," said Pierfrancesco Manenti, EMEA
research director, Manufacturing Insights. This is why one of the most
preeminent selection criteria considered by automotive companies choosing a new
IT supplier is ' thorough understanding of business/industry.' It is interesting
to note that this criterion, as well as being among the top criteria, is also
one of those with a bigger gap between importance and current level of
satisfaction.
