Abstract
The market for replacement car parts has been affected by a number of restraints, with value sales increasing only modestly. This is partly a reflection of a fall in volume sales for many car parts which itself is a reflection of the increasing warranty and service periods being offered on new cars as well as the general improvements in reliability. The rise that has taken place in the size of the UK car parc in recent years has had relatively little impact on sales. Nevertheless, some segments of the market are seeing strong growth as manufacturers increase the sophistication of vehicles and consequently demands on the replacement market. An electronic component, for example, is one segment where sales are growing.
This report is based on the hypothesis that "as extensions are being made to car warranties and service intervals so the importance of being able to reach the market increases. This is especially true given the expected continued decline in the importance of home maintenance to others"._
