Abstract
Pet ownership is increasing, particularly for cats and dogs, and with that comes a need for more food and supplies. The industry is recovering from the pet food recall of 2007, and consumers are more conscious of the provenance of ingredients and materials. The anthropomorphic tendencies of pet owners is creating a market where only the best will do, and they will go to great lengths to ensure that they are providing their animals with high quality goods. Natural and indulgent are two key words in food, and the use of supplements is at its highest. This report will help pet food and supply industry players better understand:
- How the food recall and lead tainted product crises has impacted consumer buying patterns, as well as overall sales
- Which manufacturers, brand and products are the "cream of the crop," with the greatest sales successes over the past year
- How the retail landscape has shifted as a result of the new breed of heightened consciousness consumer
- The importance of women, children and young adults as the most active pet owners, and how to best target their needs
- Where to best focus energy in the myriad of trends facing the industry, including natural, condition specific and eco-friendly products
