Abstract
The pace of convergence has accelerated and convergent telcos are beginning to
appear. France Telecom looks the most advanced, although BT, Telenor and
Telecom Italia are not far behind. Operators with both mass-market fixed and
mobile have the most to converge and hence the most to gain, although this
does not necessarily exclude the likes of BT, although it does pose big
questions for mobile-only operators such as Vodafone.
The future looks to be more of the same, although the ability of telcos to
compete successfully looks like it will be determined by how the company
executes its marketing strategy (an external/market issue) and how efficient
its processes are (an internal issue).
