Abstract
Synopsis
For the last twenty years, automotive has proved one of the most stable and
consistent growth sectors for suppliers of electronics and semiconductors.
Environmental and safety legislation, along with consumer' s growing
expectations for enhanced comfort, communications and entertainment, will
dictate an on-going trend for increased electronic content in automobiles for
at least the next 15-20 years.
The study provides analysis of the global market for automotive entertainment
systems, including audio-only systems, front seat infotainment, rear seat
entertainment, embedded navigation systems and emergency telematics.
For further information on the market for automotive "under-the-hood" systems,
such as body, chassis, powertrain, safety and security, please refer to the
Semicast report "Under-the- hood Automotive Electronic Systems-2008 Edition".
Key Conclusions:
- Global light vehicle production is forecast to grow from 67.4 million in
2007 to 80.3 million in 2015. North America and West Europe are forecast to
remain the two largest light vehicle production regions over the period to
2015.
- Revenues for automotive entertainment systems are forecast to grow at a
CAGR of just 3% from 2007 to 2015.
- Highest revenue growth is forecast for embedded navigation systems;
revenues for audio-only source units are forecast to decline.
- North America had the highest revenues for automotive entertainment
systems in 2007 and is forecast to continue as the largest market over the
period to 2015.
- Highest revenue growth is forecast for China; Japan is forecast to have
declining revenues over the period to 2015.
Key Features:
- Coverage of audio-only source units, front seat infotainment, rear seat
entertainment, embedded navigation systems and emergency telematics systems.
Coverage also of autochangers, satellite radio tuners and amplifiers.
- Analysis of market trends for each system into five geographic regions:
North America, West Europe, Japan, China and "Rest of the World".
- Analysis of unit shipments, average pricing and revenues for each system,
in each region. Base year is 2006, with forecasts to 2015.
- Supplier market share estimates in 2007 for North America, West Europe,
Japan and China are presented (in units) for audio-only source units, front
seat infotainment, rear seat entertainment and embedded navigation systems.
Separate analysis is provided for OE (factory-fit) and aftermarket shipments.
- Analysis of automotive source unit connectivity, covering OE and
aftermarket trends for integrated Bluetooth, aux in and USB.
- Analysis of automotive source unit media format trends, covering CD, DVD,
HDD storage and solid state mass storage.
