Abstract
VDC is pleased to announce the release of its Self-Checkout Solutions report,
Volume 4 of its 2008 Retail Automation Equipment Planning Service. The report
analyzes the global consumption and expected purchases of retail
automation/point-of-sale (POS) equipment. Further, the report provides the
following for each vertical market segment: typical retail respondent
profiles/demographics, planned equipment expenditures, purchase decision
criteria, vendor satisfaction ratings, analysis of shipments by distribution
channel, buyer decision-making positions, and preferred vendors.
Research Highlights
The global market for self-checkout solutions continued to be dominated by
grocery store/supermarkets and department stores/mass merchants. Combined,
these two segments accounted for 76% of the entire market. Both of these core
markets are anticipated to experience growth of approximately 20% annually
over the next five years - continuing to account for the majority of
self-checkout revenues. Despite the recent success associated with these
solutions, retailers across all vertical markets are still trying to find the
appropriate balance between manned POS solutions and self-service POS
solutions (i.e., self-checkout solutions, self-service kiosks).
